Firms To Watch: Competition and antitrust

In January 2022, Conesa y Moreno Abogados founded its competition and antitrust practice, bringing in Diego González Altamirano to lead the offering. The practice feeds off the firm’s strength in contentious matters and has recent experience acting for third parties in amparo cases, and is steadily building a client base requiring advice on interactions with the Mexican antitrust authorities.
The October 2024 arrival of competition public policy expert Alejandra Palacios as an external counsel at Cuatrecasas puts the office firmly on the map for strategic regulated industry and anti-trust matters; with extensive experience as an independent board member (for entities such as Alfa and BBVA), Palacios led Mexico’s competition regulator COFECE for eight years up to 2021.
January 2024 saw Vázquez Tercero & Zepeda open a competition and antitrust department with the hire of Ivan Szymanski from Santamarina y Steta. He bolsters the firm’s broad offering on nearshoring matters, assisting with competition and antitrust issues therein.
