Hugh James

Strengthened in core charity-related work by the arrival in July 2024 of Harriet Morgan and also able to leverage other key practice areas across the firm’s full-service offering, Hugh James advises charities across the full scope of their legal needs. Morgan now heads the team and along with Marie Philippe, who is noted for her ‘in-depth knowledge of all aspects of charity law and practice’.   • Advising Welsh National Theatre on the incorporation of a new charity and advising actor Michael Sheen on the rules on trustee benefits and arrangements to be put in place for his role as Artistic Director given that he is also a trustee.
  • Advising United Welsh Housing Association on a collaboration with local charities to acquire a historic Grade II listed property in Cardiff which was repurposed into housing to help tackle youth homelessness.
  • Advising Natural England on the Millennium Green and Doorstep Green charitable trusts.
