In addition to real estate transactions and investments, Clifford Chance's broad practice includes various related topics, such as financing issues and tax structuring, as well as project developments, joint ventures, the design of real estate funds, ongoing asset management and tenancy issues, as well as the repositioning of real estate and industry-specific litigation. In February 2025, Fabian Böhm, who complements his transaction experience with expertise in real estate finance structuring, took over as practice head from Christian Keilich (portfolio and individual transactions), who will leave the team in April 2025. Philipp Stoecker is another key contact and advises on portfolio transactions, including asset and share deals.

Thomas Müller, Daniel Kress and Thomas Lang are among the key contacts for real estate-related M&A transactions and joint ventures in Germany as well as abroad and jointly lead the practice with Martin Geiger, who advises banks, funds and companies on real estate financing issues and loan portfolio transactions.

Through close cooperation with offices in the US, Hogan Lovells International LLP's German real estate practice is predestined for cross-border matters and advises real estate investors, including pension funds, and companies on real estate transactions and related financing structures. Dirk Debald heads the practice and covers the entire range of real estate issues, ranging from transactions and related financing to project developments and tenancy law issues. As well as Roland Bomhard, Debald also covers various special properties, such as logistics and retail, and frequently assists investors and family offices. Linklaters advises funds and asset managers on transactions across various asset classes, including data centers and residential properties, and has recently become increasingly active in the logistics sector, where it assists property managers and project developers with portfolio transactions as well as an increasing number of restructuring and insolvency-related matters. Practice head Wolfram Krüger is also regularly called upon to assist with pan-European portfolio transactions and restructurings, particularly by investors, especially from Asia, as well as by banks and insurance companies. Ashurst LLP's real estate practice has recently been focusing on asset management and real estate finance issues, including the refinancing of projects, as well as insolvency and restructuring-related situations and sustainability measures. Nicolas Deuerling (real estate and property law; asset deals and share deals) joined Gowling WLG at the end of 2024.

When project development expert Tina Siebenhaar joined Mayer Brown LLP in May 2024, real estate transaction expert Christian Lonquich took over the leadership of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner's real estate team. Most recently, the group has been particularly active in the hotel sector, advising hotel operators, investors and project developers on hotel acquisitions, sales as well as leases. Through its integration into the international network, the German real estate practice of Latham & Watkins LLP routinely assists US private equity firms with cross-border portfolio transactions, although it continues to also advise on the restructuring of real estate portfolios, including office and residential properties. Practice co-head Carsten Loll is equally committed to advice to private equity clients, asset managers and institutional investors on large transactions across the office, retail and logistics asset classes, as well as assistance with M&A-related real estate issues in the energy and healthcare sectors, among others. Private equity investors, asset managers and project developers rely on McDermott Will & Emery Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater LLP's expertise in real estate transactions in the German and European market; the  group's focus here lies on the office and logistics asset classes. Jens Ortmanns heads the firm's European real estate team and is well versed in transactional support, ongoing asset management as well as finance and joint venture structuring. Maximilian Clostermeyer, who is also experienced in transactions, regularly assists with share and asset deals as well as real estate law aspects of M&A transactions. Norton Rose Fulbright advises investors and real estate funds on cross-border individual and portfolio transactions in the office, logistics and hotel asset classes, among others. Maren Stölting heads the German and the wider EMEA team and advises investors, funds and insurers on real estate transactions as well as project developments and tenancy and leasing law issues. White & Case LLP's real estate focus lies on transactional matters, which is not least in line with the personal focus of practice head Rostyslav Telyatnykov, who also acts as a notary. In addition to classic real estate transactions, the practice also assists national and international investors and project developers with real estate issues within M&A transactions. Most recent acquisitions and sales involved industrial sites, logistics parks and various residential and commercial real estate portfolios. This is complemented by expertise in tenancy law and various interface skills, such as those required for industry-specific financing.

BRL BOEGE ROHDE LUEBBEHUESEN's broad range of expertise includes transactional and project support; here, the group advises on rural and urban district developments, while also being well versed in ongoing asset management. The team is led by transaction specialist Felix Baum and further includes Michael-Alexander Rojnic, an expert in the hotel sector and hotel development. Moritz Gerum, who is experienced in transactions and tenancy law, made salary partner in January 2024.

Through close cooperation with its European finance teams, Herbert Smith Freehills LLP's German real estate group often assists with real estate financing as well as real estate transactions while regularly acting for lenders and borrowers in the (re)structuring of loans, among other matters. In addition to transactions and related financing issues, practice head Sven Wortberg also handles industry-specific regulatory issues. Stefanie Herkert is another key contact for private equity investors and companies, among others; she advises on transaction structures, including sale and leaseback, and joint ventures.

Investors, funds and companies regularly instruct K&L Gates LLP to advise on transactions, particularly in the logistics and retail asset classes, but also on acquisition and sales of office and healthcare portfolios. In addition to its transactional advice, the practice has expertise in portfolio restructuring and the development of new real estate projects. Practice head Georg Foerstner covers cross-border transactions and related financing, while Philipp Turnwald is the key contact for commercial tenancy law and ongoing asset management matters.

King & Spalding LLP places a particular focus on advising real estate funds, but is also instructed by banks and asset managers to advise on issues relating to real estate financing and securities law. From its Frankfurt office, the practice assists with transactions across various asset classes, including logistics, residential and office, and advises lenders on the design of financing structures. The practice group is jointly headed by financial lawyer Sebastian Kaufmann, who is admitted to practice in Germany, New York and England and Wales, fund structuring expert Andreas Böhme and counsel Moritz Heidbuechel, who advises on industry-specific asset and share deals.

Since March 2024, BMH BRÄUTIGAM has been operating as NEON and, within its real estate practice, focuses on industry-specific joint ventures and share deals as well as related financing structures, while also managing project developments. Practice head Boris Reschucha primarily advises on real estate transactions and related corporate issues as well. The important role of its asset management advice was underlined with the appointment of Katja Walkhoff as salary partner in January 2024.

ROTTHEGE is regularly instructed by German and foreign asset managers who seek advice on acquiring assets and concluding rental agreements. The practice demonstrates particular expertise in the hotel and logistics sectors. Accordingly, Lars Kölling often deals with matters in the hotel sector, where he assists developers and operators with development projects, while Martin Butzmann is well versed in real estate transactions and ongoing asset management issues. Kölling and Butzmann jointly head the practice.

Squire Patton Boggs' real estate practice has a dual focus: on one hand, it assists with cross-border portfolio transactions and, on the other, it represents clients in claims against tenants and service providers. Its transactional competence is complemented by financing expertise, which the group applies to design financial structures for transactions and project developments, as well as by experience in real estate portfolio restructuring.
