Maitland Chambers

The team at Maitland Chambers continues to advise on a broad range of complex charity matters. Andrew Westwood KC and Ted Loveday appeared in Mohammed v Daji, a dispute over the ownership of a site at Abbey Mills in East London where a mosque was constructed by members of a particular Sunni Muslim community - the case revolved around if the site was held on a charitable trust for members of the community in London, or whether it was held on trust for the former leaders of the movement in the UK at the time of the original purchase of the land; the High Court ruled in favour of the London community. Bolstering the group at the senior end, Matthew Smith KC was appointed to silk in March 2024.
